I had heard about the azaleas in Tyler and Pyron Garden many times and finally decided to visit last spring. I was truly impressed, amazed, and mesmerized by their beauty.

Pyron Garden is about a two-hour drive from Fort Worth, and I couldn’t believe I had waited so long to visit the garden.
The Azaleas at Pyron Garden
Pyron Garden in Tyler TX is a private garden. It is a must-see, especially during the annual Azalea & Spring Flower Trail.
Azalea & Spring Flower Trail is a two-week event during which the Pyron Garden hosts the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony.
The public is welcome to tour the blooming azaleas, roses, trees, and more around the gazebo, greenhouse, bronze sculptures, fountains, and walking bridge.
We visited in mid-March, and the rain had just stopped. I was afraid that the garden was muddy, but it was not. It made the flowers ‘happy’, and the water flowing in the creek that crossed the backyard made our visit even more beautiful.
Before visiting, I stopped at the Tyler Visitor Center in downtown Square for information on Pyron Garden and the Azalea & Spring Flower Trail. I left the visitor center with a brochure that showed two Azalea & Spring Flower Trails, the Lindsey Trail and the Dobbs Trail.
The Lindsey Trail was the original trail. The Dobbs Trail was added as more houses displayed azaleas and flowers during the spring trail. Both trails overlap at several spots. The Pyron Garden is on the Dobbs Trail.
At first, I thought Pyron Garden was a city garden. I didn’t know it was a private garden and free to visit.
We parked in front of the house. The entrance to the garden is on the left, and you will see the sign Pyron Garden.
There’s a gate to enter the garden. It was closed when I got there. I thought the garden was closed because some bridesmaids and groomsmen were taking pictures. A lady by the driveway told me it was open, but everyone must close the gate once inside.
The garden was so beautiful! There were bronze statues, a greenhouse, a water fountain, and a bridge above the creek that led to the gazebo. Azaleas were everywhere, and they bloomed in full. There were columbine, foxglove, wisteria, and many more beautiful flowers.
Pyron Garden may not be large like Betty Ford Alpine Gardens in Vail, Colorado, but it is breathtaking!
It’s no surprise that it was featured in Southern Living and Texas Monthly.
The bridesmaids and groomsmen left shortly after I arrived, leaving me alone for several minutes. Eventually, a family of four arrived, and I asked them to take my picture.
Everyone seemed happy to be there.
Pyron Garden Tyler TX History
Guy and Joan Pyron moved to Tyler in 1994 after more than a decade of visiting and enjoying the Azalea District and Lake Tyler.
The Pyrons fell in love with the picturesque neighborhoods and historic landmarks.
They saw an opportunity to create something they couldn’t have while living in Dallas. So, they bought a historic house that had been neglected for years.
They renovated the house and the garden. Guy taught himself to lay stone and work iron. Mrs. Pyron spent her days in the garden, planting the flowers herself.
Their love for the house and the garden made their home one of the most beloved on the tour.
Pyron Garden Tyler TX Hours
The garden opens year-round, but it gets most visitors during Azalea Trail in the spring. It opens from dawn to dusk, but the owner asks you to visit during daylight hours.

Pyron Garden Tyler TX Wedding
Ms. Pyron would like you to visit whenever you are up to, but she makes an exception for a wedding.
They mentioned that the garden is rarely crowded, except on certain occasions.
When we were there, besides a family of four, there were bridesmaids and groomsmen taking pictures. Fortunately, taking photos wasn’t an issue.
Best Time to Visit Pyron Garden
If you don’t like crowds, weekdays are better than weekends.
But, there are Azalea Art & Crafts Fair, Historic Tyler on Tour, Rose City Artisan & Flower Market, and Carriage Rides on the weekends.
If you can spend a night or two in Tyler, the carriage rides are from Wednesday to Sunday from 5-9 p.m.
