The World’s Largest Pistachio at McGinn’s Farm – Alamogordo, New Mexico
When I first checked what to see in Alamogordo, New Mexico, the World’s Largest Pistachio at McGinn’s Farm popped up. As a pistachio lover, of course, I had to make a stop there.

That summer, we had our first road trip to the southwest from North Texas, where we live. A couple of friends suggested we visit White Sands National Park in Alamogordo after they heard we wanted to visit Carlsbad Caverns National Park in New Mexico and Saguaro National Park in Tucson, Arizona.
Alamogordo’s location is kind of between the two cities. One friend suggested we stop at the New Mexico Museum of Space History in Alamogordo because she knew my son likes space science.
Since we spent a night in the city, I googled for more things to do in Alamogordo. And that’s when the World’s Largest Pistachio at McGinn’s Farm came to the picture.
So, I told my husband we needed to stop at McGinn’s Farm before we left town. I didn’t think it would take much of our time on the road.
Besides, who doesn’t want to take picture with the World’s Largest Pistachio?
The World’s Largest Pistachio at McGinn’s Farm
This World’s Largest Pistachio monument stands 30 feet tall by the entrance of McGinn’s pistachio orchard. You can easily see it from the highway.
When we arrived there, the first thing we did was take pictures of the monument.
Then we went inside the gift shop and enjoyed all kinds of free samples of pistachio. They were delicious, and we bought two bags of chocolate-covered pistachio and cookies for snacks on the road.
They also offered Motorized Farm Tours, where they take visitors to tour the pistachio orchards and vineyards.
During the tour, you will learn about the McGinn family farming history and information about growing and harvesting pistachios and wine grapes.
The tour runs for about 30 minutes, but too bad we didn’t have time to do it.
Tour hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the top of each hour; everyday of the week, except Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
Tour prices: $3 per person, and FREE for five and under. At the end of tour you can turn the ticket in for a special treat or coupon.
The McGinn family started the orchard in 1980. Then, the son built the memorial monument for the founder, Thomas McGinn, in 2008.
McGinn’s Farm Wine
As I mentioned above, they also grow grapes. They make wine on site and produced fruit wines over the years from local growers.
Of course, there are wine samples for you to try, too. You can sample up to four of their unique wines. Wine sampling is free with ID.
Are pets allowed at McGinn’s Farm?
McGinn’s Farm is extremely pet friendly! You can bring your dog, cat, rabbit, ferret, iguana, parrot, or tropical fish. They only ask your pets are safely contained with a leash/carrier or being held.
As always, you can order their pistachio products or wine online. Just go to their website, pick what you like, and place your order.
