Oakwood RV Resort in Fredericksburg Texas: A Review of Our Stay.

Last Thanksgiving break, we stayed for two nights at Oakwood RV Resort in Fredericksburg, Texas.

It was our first time staying at Oakwood. We stayed in our teardrop trailer while our son and dog camped in our minivan.

Even though we didn’t use much of their amenities during our two nights there, we were nevertheless impressed with Oakwood RV Park.

Here is my review of Oakwood RV Resort in Fredericksburg, Texas. From the booking process to the day we left.

Site Reservation at Oakwood RV Resort in Fredericksburg, Texas.

It’s easy to reserve a spot in Oakwood RV Resort. Visit their website and click the Reserve Now button on the top right. To see the site availability, you must fill out the stay range, unit type, and unit length columns.

After that, choose your site. Then follow the instruction until you make the payment. You only have to pay for the first night if you plan to stay for two nights. They will charge the rest of the payment on the morning of your stay.

After you complete the online reservation, you will receive a confirmation letter.

Alternatively, you can always call the office to reserve a site.

I made an online reservation a week before our trip. Fortunately, they still had a spot available for us.

You will also see a campground map with color-coded campsites. They described the park’s site in eight different colors.

Oakwood RV Resort Sites

Here are the eight different sites available in Oakwood RV Resort in Fredericksburg, Texas:

– Full Hookup Pull-Thru Site ($63 daily, $389 weekly)

The location is in the middle of the park, near the pool, restrooms, showers, and meeting rooms. There is a patio and a picnic table at each location.

– Full Hookup Back-In Site 30amp ($55 daily, $339 weekly)

Most sites are under the trees, and some of them are close to the pool and spa.    

– Premium Full Hookup Pull-Thru Site ($69, $429 weekly)

The largest pull-through sites have a patio, picnic table, Adirondack chairs, and a fire pit. They are easily accessible and have lovely shade trees.

– Ultra Premium Full Hookup Back-In Site ($75 daily, $459 weekly)

The largest back-in site views a pond, putting green, and lush gardens. Visitors to the six ultra-premium locations can relax on a private deck. The meeting rooms, restrooms, showers, and laundry room are nearby. Each campsite offers a patio, picnic table, and fire pit.

– Full Hookup Back-In Site 50amp ($55 daily, $339 weekly)

Most are heavily treed, offering ample shade, and many are closer to the pool and spa.

– Full Hookup Compact Site ($45 daily, $279 weekly)

Ideal for Class B and small Class C RVs with a maximum length of 25 feet. The location is close to restrooms, showers, laundry, and meeting rooms. Each comes with a picnic table.

– Premium Full Hookup Back-In Sites ($69 daily, $429)

Oakwood’s largest sites, most are heavily treed and offer ample shade. Each site has a patio and a picnic table.

Prices are for up to four people per site. It is an extra $5 daily per person and $30 weekly.

There are 132 RV sites on a 15-acres property available for you.

Check-in at Oakwood RV Resort

Check-in time at Oakwood is 1 p.m. 

We came from south of Fort Worth and stopped at San Saba, about an hour north of Fredericksburg.

It was not our first trip to Fredericksburg, but our first time setting up our teardrop on Oakwood campground.

When we drove to Fredericksburg, we preferred the back road to Highway I-35W. Driving on US-67 S and TX-16 S/N will take you through small towns and see lots of roadside attractions between DFW areas and Fredericksburg.

Once we got to Fredericksburg, we stayed on TX-16 S/N until we turned right onto Tivydale/FM 2093. Oakwood is just a few feet away from TX-16. Downtown Fredericksburg is only around a 6-minute drive.

TX-16 is not new to us. We stayed at Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park before, less than 2 miles south of Oakwood.

After turning to FM 2093, we saw Oakwood on the right-hand side. It’s at the corner of FM 2093 and TX-16 S/N. There’s a big sign at the gate.

The office is on the left. My husband stayed in the car when I walked into the office to take care of the check-in.

The lady behind the counter greeted me friendly. She found my reservation, grabbed the park’s map, and showed me the way there. Our site was across the restroom, and the dog park was on the other end of our site.

She also told me about trash pick up and WiFi. Then she said the park gave every guest a bag of ice for free.

The office was clean and bright. You can find brochures about Fredericksburg on the other side of the counter. There were a few slices of chocolate rolls and bags of dog treats on the table, but I didn’t take any.

Before I left the office, I asked her about dog-friendly restaurants in town that serve good burgers. Surprisingly, she recommended me a few restaurants that we hadn’t been to before. She’s so helpful.

Our Site on Oakwood

I chose a full hookup compact site because we traveled with a teardrop trailer.

Oakwood has nine compact sites. They are ideal for Class B and small Class C with a maximum length of 25 feet. Our teardrop is less than 15 feet long. Therefore it should fit in Oakwood’s compact site.

When looking at the park map, it appears that each site is the same size. A few sites look smaller than compact sites. But the map is not to scale.

We drove to our site at the corner of Cactus Drive. There are two compact sites there, under a heavily treed part of the park. When we got there, we were surprised to see our site, number 028. It looked so small, and we weren’t sure whether we could park our trailer and car there. There are two trees at the front of the site. That’s the problem.

I stepped outside and measured the distance between the two trees. Then I helped my husband when he backed-in the trailer. He made it, but it is a tight space.

Because the site is heavily treed, site 029 picnic table is closer to our electric and water source. But we didn’t use it because it was wet from the nighttime downpour.

A couple who traveled in a Winnebago Travato later spent the night at site 029. The site is a little larger, and unlike site 028, there are no two trees in the front.

The sites we are at look like a triangle. It is between Oakwood Lane, Old Fredericksburg Road, and Cactus Drive. It is for back-in sites with full hookups (50 amp and 30 amp). The locations are wooded, and every RV is parked under a tree. Although it wasn’t warm when we visited, I can tell that the summer there will be pleasant.

Oakwood Campgrounds Amenities

Oakwood RV Park offers impressive amenities for the guests. We visited end of November, and it was cold. Here are a few that we used during our stay:

– Clean restroom. There are three showers and three toilets in each male and female restroom. They put a heater in the restroom to keep the room warm. You need a code for the restroom, so unknown visitors can’t use the restroom.

– Fenced dog park. I do not know if all guests picked up after their dogs or if Oakwood cleaned the dog park. It was spotless while we were there, and the waste bag dispensers were full, too. I haven’t seen a dog park in RV campgrounds like this.

– Free Wi-Fi. There were only three empty sites when we were there, but the three of us didn’t have a problem with the Wi-Fi. The connection was great.

– Vallet trash. Every day from 8 a.m. to noon, they offer free trash pickup. You must tie the bag and leave it at the front of your campsite. We did it, and I saw a guy driving his golf cart around to pick up trash.

Here is one of the amenities that we saw other guests use, and I thought it was cool:

– Community fire pit and BBQ areas. On our way back to the campsite, we saw a group of people around the fire pit. We thought it was awesome!

And here are other amenities that I think are heavily used when it’s not cold:

– A huge swimming pool with lounge chairs and a pleasant shaded area.

– Cable TV.

– A therapeutic hot tub.

– Laundry facility.

– A children’s playground.

– Three rally rooms for up to 200 people.

– Horseshoes ad shuffleboard.

– Putting green.

– Hiking paths.

Check-out at Oakwood

Check-out time at Oakwood is at noon. Once we packed, we left, and no need to stop at the office.

Final Thoughts On Oakwood RV Resort in Fredericksburg, Texas.

Our little site wasn’t an issue in the end. The campground space was ideal for us as we passed the two trees at the front. If your car is as broad as our Toyota Sienna, you won’t have trouble staying at site number 028.

I like how many trees there are on our site. It won’t surprise me if this section of the RV park is popular during the summer.

Although the space between each site is not very spacious, every camper managed to extend their sliders without problems.

Sites 028 or 029 are ideal for trailer campers without a bathroom within the trailer. Hot showers and restrooms are just a few steps away.

Additionally, Oakwood RV Resort’s front desk staff was friendly and accommodating.
