Limehurst Lake Campground Review: A Beautiful Campground In Williamstown, Vermont.

Before we jump into my reviews, let’s find out why it is essential for me to write about Limehurst Lake Campground.

First, it’s not easy to find the best campground when you are not only from out-of-town but also from out-of-state. And it was our first time in Vermont as well. 

Secondly, you want to make sure the campground location is strategic. Is it close to the attractions or places we want to visit? How far is it from the previous destination and the next destination?

Next, you need to factor in the campground amenities. We traveled with our teardrop trailer that doesn’t have a restroom. A clean bathroom with hot showers is critical to us.

Lastly, is the campground dog-friendly or not? Our dog Snoopy traveled with us.

With these in mind, we decided to stay around Montpelier, the capital of Vermont. Our previous stop was Cooperstown in upstate New York, and the next destination was Lincoln, New Hampshire. Montpelier is in the middle of the two cities. 

We were on our cross-country road trip from Texas to Maine. Before we set up our trailer at Limehurst campground, we stayed for a night in KOA Cooperstown, New York.

Limehurst Lake Campground Review

When I searched for campgrounds around Montpelier, I came across two places that interested me. I sent emails to both places, and Limehurst Lake Campground replied to me in a short time.

As for the other campground, I still haven’t heard anything from them until today.

Booking a site at Limehurst Lake Campground

After the initial email to Limehurst campground and double checked the location with our itinerary, we decided to stay at Limehurst campground.

I called the campground to book a site, and they found me the perfect campsite for our teardrop trailer and minivan. It’s right by the lake. 

We planned a two nights stay, so they fully charged my credit card per their policy.

If we had to cancel the booking two weeks before the arrival date, I would get a full refund, less the $20 administrative fee. If the cancelation is between 8-14 days, the refund will be 50% less the $20 administrative fee. No refund if I cancel it between 1-7 days.

Arriving at Limehurst Lake

We arrived slightly before 4 p.m. after missing the turn to the campground.

Limehurst Lake Campground location is on a country road, and there aren’t too many houses between downtown Williamstown and the campground.

The campground sign is not bold, so first-time campers will easily miss it.

When we turned to Limehurst Lake Campground, we weren’t sure whether that was the exact address. It’s because we drove through what looks like a trailer park community before we reached the campground property.

The Limehurst Lake Office location is on the left side. The checked-in process went fast because there was no payment to make anymore. I got the campground map and the pass to get into the campsites. Campers need the code to open the fence bar.

The owner explained to me about camping rules, bathroom, and laundry. She also gave me information on covered bridges and a floating bridge nearby.

The couples at the office are new owners who took over Limehurst Lake Campground in 2019.

Campsite at Limehurst Lake Campground

Since we traveled with our teardrop trailer, we only need a water and electric site. We got one of the river campground sites. It was a perfect one for us. 

The ground was flat and green, and the calm river was across the campsite. 

Our site came with a picnic table and a fire pit. We didn’t use the fire pit, but if you plan to use a fire pit during your visit, you can’t bring out-of-state firewood with you. Firewoods are available at the camp store.

The bathhouse and laundry are a few feet away. We could walk on the driveway or cut through the site behind ours. It was empty at the time.

Staying at Limehurst Lake Campground

After we turned to our campsite and saw the lake, we knew we would like our stay. It looks beautiful and peaceful.

The ground was nearly flat, so it was easy to set up our trailer.

The facilities we used during our stay were showers and laundry. We had to put six quarters for showers, and I never added more than that, even though I washed my hair. It was more than enough. The water was hot and the pressure was strong. What else you’re looking for, right?

There were three showers and two toilets in each men’s and women’s bathroom. They all functioned well, although they were not new fixtures. 

It’s the same with the laundry facility. The washing machine and drier were not new, but they worked well.

For a good Wifi connection, we had to sit around the bathhouse area. It was spotty from our campsite.

My husband and I got to take Snoopy for a walk along the lake. There was a dog park on the west side of the campground.

I noticed that more long-time campers stayed in the campsite area behind us, the 50 amp area.

I can’t tell you about the walking trail because I didn’t walk on it. It circles the lake.

During our stay, they were building an inground pool. The beach was closed, as well as the boat rentals.

On the second day of our stay, a couple from Kentucky set up their tiny camper next to us. I saw a man on a motorcycle set up his tent in the tent area across the lake.

It was quiet in the evening, and millions of stars twinkled above us. We liked to sit outside the tent until it got dark and enjoyed the lake in the morning when having our breakfast. It was a pretty setup.

Leaving Limehurst

Checkout time is 11 a.m. The process was as easy as the checked-in. I just told the owner that we were leaving.

Final Thoughts On Limehurst Lake Campground Review

We enjoyed our stay at Limehurst Lake Campground. It was quiet and beautiful, and the bathrooms and laundry facilities worked well. They were clean, too.

The campsites were clean, too. We didn’t see trash on the ground.

I wish they have better Wifi.

Limehurst Lake Strategic Location

If you look at the map of Limehurst Lake Campground in Williamstown, you can see that its location is almost in the middle of the state of Vermont. We could have explored south of Vermont if only we had another day to spend in this maple sugar state.

Here are several directions to interesting places in Vermont from Williamstown:

Williamstown to Montpellier

Montpellier is the smallest state capital in the United States. It will not take a lot of time to explore the capital.

The distance from Williamstown to Montpelier is around 15 miles, and you can arrive in about 20 minutes.

We strolled Montpelier after setting up our trailer.

While in Vermont, you must visit one of the Maple Sugarworks. There is Morse Farm Maple Sugarworks outside Montpellier. Our dog Snoopy had a fun visit with us.

Williamstown to Waterbury & Stowe

Ben & Jerry’s in Waterbury is a must while in Vermont. It is only around thirty minutes drive to the northwest from Williamstown.

A few minutes further, you will get to Cold Hollow Cider Mill.

From Cold Hollow Cider Mill to Stove is only around 10 minute drive.

Stowe is one of the favorite destinations in Vermont. You can visit Moss Glen Falls, drive to Smuggler’s Notch, visits the Trapp Family Lodge, and do many more beautiful things in the area.

Williamstown to Brookfield

Vermont is also home to covered bridges. You can visit three covered bridges at Brookfield, about fifteen minutes to the south. You can also see and drive on the only floating bridge in Vermont in Brookfield. Use the Limehurst Lake Campground map for directions to covered bridges and the floating bridge.

Williamstown to Barre Town

Do you know that you can visit a working granite quarry? Rock of Ages in Barre Town claimed itself as Vermont’s most iconic natural wonder and tourist destination. We enjoyed our visit, and I think you will, too. It is only 15 minutes drive to the north of the campground.
