A visit to dog-friendly Morse Farm Maple Sugarworks in Montpelier, Vermont.
When my friend heard we were going to stop in Vermont during our Texas to Maine road trip, she suggested we visit Morse Farm Maple Sugarworks in Montpelier. She knew we traveled with our dog Snoopy, and Morse Farm is one of the dog friendly maple syrup farms in Vermont.
In case you do not know, Vermont is the nation’s leading producer of maple syrup. It’s about right to visit at least one of the maple syrup farms during the visit.
Our base for the 3 days trip in Vermont was in Williamstown, about a 20 minutes drive from Montpelier. So, a visit to Morse Farm Maple Sugarworks in Montpelier was perfect.

Visiting Morse Farm Maple Sugarworks in Montpelier
Morse Farm Maple Sugarworks is located 2.7 miles from downtown Montpelier. From where we stayed in Williamstown it’s about 17.5 miles.
Our family visited the Morse Family Farm in June, way after sugaring time which was normally in the spring. That’s when the nighttime temperatures are below freezing and the daytime temperatures are above freezing. So, we only got to tour their woodshed theater, the country store, and a little walk on a nature trail to their maple farm.
We started the visit by stopping first at the woodshed theater. Here we watched a video presentation about how maple syrup was farmed and processed, and the Morse Farm History. A funny presentation by Burr Morse, the sugar farm owner.
Then we moved to the next room where we got to see the equipment used in the farm. What we saw in the video, we got to see them in the next room.
From here we did a little walk to their maple trees farm. We got to see the tubes and pipes where they transform the saps from the trees. Later when we drove around Central Vermont, we realized how big the maple sugar industry is in Vermont. We saw lots of maple trees wrapped by tubes and pipes from the highway.
Then we turned around towards the store. Before we got to the store, right across the woodshed theater, was the farm’s ‘outdoor museum’. It showcases Burr’s whimsical carved folklife characters.
Yes! Burr Morse is a man with multiple talents. He’s not only an accomplished lifelong sugarmaker, but also a musician, writer, storyteller, artist, and all-round raconteur.
How happy we were when Snoopy got to go into the store with us. We thought he had to stay outside. There is so much stuff inside the store. From their famous maple syrup to candy to kettle corn, and cheese to jams and cookies. They also have books, t-shirts, and hats.
Too bad there’s no sampling from the sugarhouse. I wasn’t sure whether it’s because it was still early in the morning or because of the pandemic.
That day we left the sugar farm with maple syrup, pancake mix, cookies, kettle corn, and a treat for Snoopy. But, we didn’t get to taste their exceptional maple creemee. Their sugar shack was closed during our visit.

Somehow Maple sugarworks reminded me immediately of Ross when he & Chandler travel to Vermont and he eats a ton of Maple candies. Haha. That aside, I’m happy to read about his dog friendly maple syrup farm! That photo of snoopy with the wooden art installations of animals is so adorable. Burr Morse sounds like an interesting person. Would love to meet him. The syrup bottles are well designed. I’m drooling here.
Oh man! I guess I missed that episode! Haha… Visiting Morse Farm was really a fun experience. I wish we could meet Burr Morse that day.
Happy to know that they are dog-friendly. We usually travel with our furbaby so this is really important for us. We’d love to visit soon. Sad to know that the sugar shack was closed when you visited.
Lots of interesting facts about maple syrup. Trying everything maple was one of my favorite parts about visiting Canada. I’m sure I’d love visiting Morse Farm too.
Snoopy is such a cute little thing. I was a dog owner too and lot of times we have had to cancel a trip because we couldn’t leave him home alone as there were no safe dog home nearby. Morse Farm Maple Sugarworks in Montpelier looks a great place for family fun.
Interesting visit to Morse farm! I have visited a Cheese farm in Shelburne, Vermont. The experience is similar where they show you how cheese is made and processed. But we got to taste the various types of final products, maybe because it was many years ago before Covid. I must visit the maple sugarworks next time I am in Vermont. 🙂
Yeah. You must visit a maple sugarworks next time you go to Vermont. It’s something different. We thought about visiting a cheese farm, too, but we toured a cheese farm at least three times in different cities. So, it’s maple sugarworks time.
This is a good bonding experience for you and Snoopy. He must have had a good time with all of that stuff and activities on the farm. What a lovely dog! Thank you for the additional information you provided in the final section — it was very useful.
I love how snoopy enjoys your adventures just as much as you do. I haven’t gone to a maple sugar bush in years, but it’s might have to do one this spring. Being Canadian, maple syrup is a staple in our house so we can buy it very easily at our farmers market.
I can see that. As we live far south in Texas, this is something different for us. You just have to do it while you are in Vermont.
Oh my god, I would love to visit a Maple Syrup Farm. Morse Farm Maple Sugarworks in Vermont has done a great job making their tours customer friendly. I like the different colors of the Maple Syrup.
Snoopy looks like an adorable dog! I am a dog owner too and I appreciate dog friendly places, so Morse Farm Maple Sugarworks in Montpelier is a place after my own heart.
We’re always on the look out for dog friendly places since we take Snoopy everywhere we go.
