Last summer we spent a couple of nights there when driving through New Hampshire on our Texas to Maine road trip. Not just our first time in New Hampshire, but it was also our first time in New England. We knew nothing about Lincoln and just believed what we saw on the website and what people said about Country Bumpkins Campground.

Country Bumpkins Campground is a small, family-owned-and-operated campground in the heart of the White Mountains region of New Hampshire. It is nestled along the Pemigewasset River and Bog Brook, with a small duck pond in the center. They offer cabins, a 41’ travel trailer for rent, and campsites for RVs and tents. If you need tents, they have them available for rent, too.

Before we arrived in Lincoln, we were exploring Vermont for three days.

Our family consists of me, my husband, our teenage son, and our dog Snoopy. We hauled a teardrop travel trailer with our Toyota Sienna.

Here’s my review about Country Bumpkins Campground.

Country Bumpkins Campground Booking

To book a space at Country Bumpkins Campground is easy. Just call or go online to reserve the space. I don’t know about you, but I prefer to call if that’s one of the options of reservation.

I talked with Diane, the owner, and she said they had spaces available. She took our info, such as the date we would arrive and how long we would stay there, the size of our trailer, and how many people in the group, including our dog Snoopy.

They require one night or 30% of the total deposit, whichever is higher. Deposit is based on the number of guests you reserve.

If you have to cancel the reservation 10 or more days before your arrival, 75% of your deposit will be refunded. Refunds are not issued for reservations canceled less than 10 days before arrival.

Also, no refunds are given for early departures or evictions.

Check-in at Country Bumpkins

As stated in their website, check-in time is after 12 pm. No early check-in and everyone must check-in at their store/office before entering the campground.

We arrived in the afternoon around 3 p.m. and went straight to the store/office. Diane, the person whom I talked to on the phone/the owner, was there. She checked my credit card and ID to match the reservation, and charged the full amount of our reservation.

She gave information about the campground rules/policy, clean-up time, check-out time, Wifi password, and asked me if we wanted to buy firewood.

I asked whether there were bears around, and she said yes, occasionally. She told me to place trash in the dumpster before dusk. And, they let the dumpster open so if bears come to the campground, they will go to the dumpster instead of the campsites. Phew!

Just last year we had a bear visiting our neighbor’s campsite in Ouray, Colorado. We were sleeping in a tent at 4J RV Campground and our neighbor forgot to put their cooler inside. So, a bear had an after midnight party about 20 feet away from us.

When my husband saw a big sign saying “Bears and wildlife present. Keep food in the vehicle.” he said, “Not again!” That encounter with the bear was scary.

Fortunately there was no bear issues on the nights we spent at Country Bumpkins Campground.

Our Campsite at Country Bumpkins Campground

Our campsite was T2, the first on the left after the dumpster. It’s right by the brook that runs to the pond in the middle of the campground.

Like I mentioned above, Country Bumpkins Campground is not big. Our back-in campsite was small but it’s perfect for our teardrop travel trailer and our Sienna. We had room to set up the canopy behind the trailer. And the site came with a picnic table and a fire ring.

The ground was a mix of gravel and dirt, and it’s not hard to push the canopy’s stakes into the ground.

Water and electricity were running well during our stay, and the free WiFi connection was also good from our campsite.

CheckOut at Country Bumpkins

Checking out was easy. Pack all your stuff and leave before 11am. Make sure you don’t leave anything on the ground, both trash and your belongings.

Late checkouts are not an option.

Country Bumpkins’ Amenities

– Restrooms with free hot showers and flush toilets.

– Outside sink at the bathhouse (in the main section) for washing dishes.

– Children’s playground.

– Arcade.

– Duck pond for feeding.

– Camp store with groceries, limited RV supplies, handcrafted jewelry & clothing, and other camping essentials.

– Ice and firewood (during store hours only.)

– On-site 24/7 coin operated laundry facilities.

– Dumping station.

– Propane filling station.

– Free WiFi.

– River wading and fishing areas.

One thing I really liked about shower at Country Bumpkins was that the water was abundant and shower was strong! Bathroom was new and also clean.

However, there were only two flush toilets and two showers. When we were there, schools in New Hampshire were still in session. So, there weren’t too many guests and we didn’t have problems at all. Besides, we liked to go early in the morning for showers when everyone else was still sleeping. So, I don’t know the bathroom situation after school is out.

We didn’t use most of the amenities because we were busy exploring Franconia Notch State Park, hiking to Flume Gorge, and driving to Mount Washington.

But I walked around the campground with my dog Snoopy. I saw a not-too-big Class A RV that I didn’t know how the owner could back-in it there. There were Class C and different sizes of travel trailers, too.

A few guests were pitching tents and the Pemigewasset River was right behind their sites.

If you plan to stay in one of their cabins, check out their website here.

Country Bumpkins’ Pet Policy

Whenever we traveled, our dog Snoopy would come with us. So, we tried to find the best pet-friendly campground as best we could. We found Country Bumpkins is good for him, and we also saw a couple of dogs during our stay there.

Here are the campground pet’s policy that you need to know before you book a space:

– Dogs must be on a leash at all times and they are not allowed to wander onto or through other campgrounds.

– They are not allowed on a beach or water access.

– Don’t leave them unattended. When you leave the cabin you must take them with you or place them in a crate.

– Pick up after your dog.

– A barker is a no-no.

– No Rottweiler, Pitbull (including American Staffordshire or Staffordshire Bull Terriers), or Doberman Pinscher.

How to Get to Country Bumpkins Campground

Final Thoughts On Country Bumpkins Campground

We enjoyed our two nights stay at Country Bumpkins Campground in Lincoln, New Hampshire. Booking, check-in, and check-out process were easy. Facilities were good and I personally liked the hot shower and good WiFi connection.

Country Bumpkins Campground location is in the middle of the White Mountains attractions. And Mount Washington is less than an hour and a half drive away.

I highly recommend you to stay at Country Bumpkins Campground next time you plan a vacation in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

Note: I didn’t get paid by Country Bumpkins Campground or any other businesses to write this review. It’s strictly based on our two nights experiences there.

  1. Country Bumpkins Campground seems to be a perfect place for staying. I haven’t been to New Hampshire yet, but if I plan my next road trip, I will add this campground to my list. The price is affordable, and the spaces are pretty big to enjoy. It’s great to know that is a good WiFi connection as well.

    1. Yes, keep this campground in mind for your trip to the White Mountains area in New Hampshire.

  2. Your post reminds me of an Indian YouTuber who explored the US on Motorhome/RV. Would like to do this kind of travel someday. For that reason, I was really engrossed while reading your post.

  3. I usually prefer the online one but then if it a very delicate place, choose to also call and confirm! Haha. I do that when I’m traveling with my kid and I feel like I might get stranded if not for that accommodation. Haha.
Nice to know it is a family owned place, I like such places. It is a great idea to leave the dumpster open, so bears can go feast there!

  4. I am very curious to know why certain types of dogs are not allowed – is it because they bark a lot? The campground seems pretty well equipped with facilities. I guess, bears are a part of these surroundings and the only thing one can do is be careful. A well written review.

  5. I was kind of taken aback when I read it’s a bear prone campsite but I am sure if one follows all the rules and regulations it should not be a problem. I believe this place would be a must visit now that I have read this blog. Thank you for mentioning the pricing, amenities and everything important. Will definitely visit this place sometime, saving this blog for future reference!

  6. Great blog post! I have not camped on this part of USA but the incident about the bear having a party with the cooler is really scary! Good tips about the flush toilets and showers – it would be difficult during peak season when the campsite is full. It’s amazing that County Bumpkins provides good Wifi even though it is an open campsite. 🙂

  7. I admire the owner’s hands-on approach! It’s a good thing you included the reservation rates; it makes it much easier for individuals planning a camping trip to estimate how much money they’ll need. I’m confident that a stay will be enjoyable because of the amenities, particularly the firewood, which is ideal for a nighttime campfire. Fantastic!

  8. This looks like a very nice campground. And when looking for a campground, this is exactly the kind of reviews I would hope to find. I would be nervous about the bears too. Maybe not so much with a camper but if I was staying in a tent. We go up to the mountains quite often and you do have to very careful there. They can even smell food from your car if you leave something in there.

  9. Quite a helpful blog and thank you for sharing your experience of staying with them, though I was scared to read that it’s a bear-prone campsite. But, nevertheless, I am sure it has a fun of its own. Bookmarking for my next visit 🙂
