2 Cozy Nights at TownePlace Suites by Marriott Abilene Northeast – A Review

When we went to Abilene, about 2,5 hours to the west of Fort Worth Texas, we stayed in TownePlace Suites by Marriott Abilene Northeast. Our stay was sponsored by Abilene CVB and Marriott Abilene Northeast, but we paid for our dog stay.

We had a wonderful stay even though we used the hotel for sleeping/resting and breakfast only. Besides, it was in February and the outdoor pool was closed for the season.

Here’s my honest review of TownePlace Suites by Marriott Abilene Northeast.

The Welcome

TownePlace Suites is located side by side with its sister hotel, Courtyard by Marriott. Both hotels are connected by the lobby area.

Immediately after you enter the lobby, you will see the check-in counter for TownePlace Suites in front of the door. Checked-in at the hotel was fast, and the reception was polite and helpful.

During our stay, the front elevator at the Suites was not running. Our pet-friendly room was on the third floor. The reception gave us a room that was closer to the back elevator, so our dog didn’t have to walk far.

After checking-in, we went back outside and drove to the backside parking lot. That’s where we enter and exit during our stay.

Later in the evening I realized I forgot to bring my cell charger. I called the concierge and she said they had a charger that I could use. They would send it to our room, but I offered to pick it up myself.

Once I got to the first floor, I walked through part of the breakfast area and sitting area. They all looked clean and there weren’t any guests around. The concierge told me that I could return the charger when we left. How nice!

The Room

Right after we opened the door, there’s a kitchenette on the right and a closet on the left.

The kitchenette is occupied with a two burner stove, a coffee maker, a toaster, a microwave, and a dishwasher. Cooking ware and silverware are also available. A good size refrigerator is also available for storing your food or raw ingredients. We ended up didn’t using any of that since we ate out all the time.

In the closet, I found an extra pillow and a blanket. An iron and ironing board are also available.

From the kitchenette hall we walked into the sleeping/resting area. Our room was a non-smoking, studio type with 2 queen beds. Also, there’s a sofa bed at one corner, so it sleeps 6 people.

The room was clean, and the bed looked cozy. It made me want to lay on my head right away. It’s been a long day after the drive from our house in the south of Fort Worth and visited a few attractions in downtown Abilene.

Next to the refrigerator is a desktop, separated by a wall. It’s quite big, enough to set up your working station. You know, in case you still have to work during your leisure trip. Or, because you are in the city for work.

A chair was positioned next to the desktop, followed by a drawer with a 32-inch LCD TV on top of it.

All of these were set up facing the beds. The sofa bed was positioned against another wall.

My husband went straight to the bed and reached for the tv controller. The TV comes with cable channels and Premium TV channels. Our son found his place on the sofa bed and took out his laptop for playing games. Yes, the room came with free WiFi. The dog laid down next to him.

Then I went to check out the bathroom, like I always did whenever we got into the hotel’s room.

The Bathroom

I was impressed with the cleanliness and the size of the bathroom. The shower bathtub was clean and dry. Clean towels were more than enough for our family of three. Also, the sink area was spacious for all my toiletries without having to move stuff around.

The toiletries in the bathroom were pretty basic though. There was facial soap, bath soap, a make-up remover towelette, and small tubes of shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion.

However, I like the hairdryer in the bathroom. It’s pretty strong that I didn’t have to spend a long time drying my thick hair.

The Breakfast

As always, my husband woke up first and went downstairs for breakfast. When I arrived, he’s almost done with his food. He said everything was good.

The breakfast room was big. They put the hot buffet in one spacious room. There were eggs, biscuits and gravy, pancakes & waffles, pastries, cereals, fruits, juice, milk, and yogurt. Actually, it’s pretty basic, but they tasted wonderful. That’s what’s important!

One morning I had biscuit & gravy, and the other morning I had a Texas shaped waffle. Both were tasty.

Another thing I like about breakfast time at TownePlace Suites, the breakfast lady in charge was so friendly and helpful. She greeted each one of the guests and asked politely whether we needed something else that morning.

TownePlace Suites by Marriott Abilene Northeast Location

As described by its name, the hotel location is on the northeast side of town. It is around 15 minutes from downtown, separated by highway I-20.

Physical address: 2141 Scottish Rd., Abilene, TX 79601. Phone: (325) 673-0400.

The hotel is surrounded by restaurants. So, you won’t have problems if you decide to eat out during your stay.

Since Abilene is not very big, the distance from the hotel to places of interest in town is not that far. Also, we didn’t encounter any traffic during the weekend we stayed in the city.

Distances to popular places of interest:

Final Thoughts On TownePlace Suites by Marriott Abilene Northeast

We were pleased with our stay in TownePlace Suites by Marriott Abilene Northeast for a couple of nights. Property and room were nice and clean. Staff were polite and accommodating. Shower was good, and the hot breakfast buffet was tasty.

The only thing that I think needed change – based on our stay – was services to pets (we traveled with our dog.) I like that this hotel is pet friendly, but it would be great if the hotel prepared a dog sleeping pad, too. Not all dogs sleep on the bed with their owners, just like our dog. Also, as a dog owner, we always felt more than welcome when we saw drinking and eating bowls with a welcoming biscuit for our furry baby.

Last one. On Sunday morning on the way to the breakfast room, I saw traces of dry mud on the carpet. Abilene is an oilfield city, so it probably came from an oil guy who arrived late at night from the field. It was early in the morning, I hadn’t seen a housekeeper around. Even though it didn’t bother me, I would think there were guests who didn’t like it.

Always a bonus when they are located so close to great sites to visit.

  7. TownePlace Suites sounds like it met every criterion for the perfect family stay. I agree if you are paying extra for your pet to stay, a food and water bowl would soften the extra fee and not cost much for the property to provide. I love that the breakfast had Texas shaped waffles!
